Will anyone--or anything--be able to knock Google out of the top spot among search engines. With over two-thirds of the market share, it's practically a monopoly!

Indeed, and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Also, Twitter's real-time search engine results could give Google a run for its money!!!

Google actually increased its lead among search engines in January.

You're right JoMartin, they did. And I honestly think that's a gap that will be hard to close.

I read an interesting article this morinng about 'deep web' searches, which talked about Google's inability to access those vast pages of hidden data including financial information, shopping catalogs, flight schedules, medical research, etc...all of which the current engines are unable to pickup. But I still believe that the ones to develop this more sophisticated search engine model will be Google.

The March stats are in and Google continues to increase its share. Of that 14.3 billion total searches in the US for the month, Google had 63.7%, an increase of 0.4% from the previous month. It also the biggest margin of victory its ever had over its rivals.

It's a shame that comScore (which reports these stats) doesn't break down where the searches were performed, such as from the desktop or from mobile devices. It would be interesting to see how the percentages break down on a mobile basis. Would they be the same?

Google and search are pretty much the same anymore. What do people say when they search?? They Google. Right there is your answer

I agree with BlogGirl that Twitter (and all social networks for that matter) will pose a huge threat to Google, not only through real-time data, but with the current reality that users are more likely to go with a referral from someone they know on Facebook (for example) than with a standard search on Google.
